Killer Instinct -Arcade- Emulation ?

Hi to everyone.

I've been able to play some good old games from the NES/SNES/Megadrive era for quite a long time now, and it's always great to remember and play those.

I've also liked a category of video-games that I don't really like anymore now. The Arcades. It's just a personal thing anyway.

My favorite Arcade game of all time, at least in its respective Fighting category, was, and still is the original Killer Instinct, of course from Rareware/Nintendo.

If some of you can remember, that machine was made, basically, to show off some of the potential of the furute Nintendo's console, which was code-named Ultra 64 at that time (Around 1995).

There was even an actual ad with the "Ultra 64" logo during the demos on-screen when the machine was idle, before or after you saw the presentation of some characters featured in the game.

That game had a depressive, massive, serious feeling about it, but that's a personal opinion. I just liked it. To say "loved it" wouldn't be a mistake in this case.

Anyways...

Today I was surfing the web just to find some screenshots of the Arcade version, which was surprisingly difficult.

I eventually found out that there is an Emulator roaming around, specifically made to Emulate Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2. Yes, the Arcade versions. No the respective SNES and N64 versions.

That's according to that web-page I found: http://home.tiscali.nl/breu/#KillerInstinct

What do you guys think about that ?

Was there ever well known KI (Arcade version) Emlator made ? Do any of you know anything about the Emulation works/attempts/history of the Arcade version of KI and/or KI 2 ?

If there was, and still is a KI Arcade Emulator around then I got to find it at all costs. I'd walk on a cloud, and be in Heavens. I need to play it again, at home, free, with friends. No fighting games can equal KI's Might ! (hehe)

Seriously. Guys I'd appreciate some help.

Thanks for your time.

Well if it was made onyl to emulate KI and KI 2 then its freakishly hard to find. its probably jus one of those underground emulaters which someone musta made in there spare time... Well why not jus use MAME...it will without a doubt play all the arcade Killer Insticts as well as 95% of all other arcade games. I recomend MAME32 Plus and go download KI somewhere on the net

Hey thanks for the fast reply buddy !

Well it's quite what I was asking to myself.

I don't know if there actually IS any Killer Instinct ROM around that I could get/download, which would be the Arcade version.

For example, I saw, and keep getting the SNES or the N64 versions. The SNES version is the original, but it is nothing compared to the Arcade version. Simply nothing.

And the N64 is Killer Instinct 2, which was alright, but nothing great.

You say I could "download" the Arcade version of Killer Instinct ?

Would it be an actual ROM file in the first hand ? Or would it be another format ?

Are you sure Mame32 could support it 100% ?

Thanks again.

Ok I got some information.

It seems the KI-specifically-made-Aracade Emulator is named U64Emu, and there is also U64Emu2, which is made towards KI2.

I took a moment to open my P2P program, and I think I've found just a few files which I think contain the KI and/or KI2 Arcade files needed to run them via Emulators. The files are about 300 MB, which is a good sign, since the N64 version is no more than 10 MB (I think) and the SNES verision is about 1.5 MB.

I'll post later if I got other news/information on this, in case anyone else here would be interested to know and see if there is a true way to make it so it's possible to play the Arcade version of KI and/or KI2 at home.

Thanks again for your help dude.

omg. you have to be kidding me. i accidently stummbled on this thread while searching for specs on a certain hdd(hard disk drive), but it so happens that the KI & KI2 arcade roms are titled ki_hdd & ki2_hdd. but anyway.

no i would not recommend trying to play KI with mame. 300MB!! thats abit big unless it inludes all KI roms(1&2) in a babdly compressed package. heres the info you need and should use.

KI - 2 files
Killer Instinct ROMs (L1.5d) 4.26 Mo
Killer Instinct Disk Image (v1.0) 87.1 Mo

KI2 - 2more files
Killer Instinct 2 ROMs (L1.1) 4.33 Mo
Killer Instinct 2 Disk Image (v2.1) 125.79 Mo

Emulator = U64Emu, which is specifically designed for KI and KI only.

you can get all this by clicking here .

i know this is a bit late but eh oh well. i just found the place. and this is the only post i'm making cuz it would take a year to inform you all of the things you just dont seem to know(i've read enough posts here to know how far off you folks really are)
