(Snes) Star Ocean (4.80MB)

Note: This game is in english. The voices are in japanese(During battle) but pretty much everything else is in english. No need to patch it, just play and enjoy.

Note 2: The review was based off of the japanese version.

"An amazing RPG in.... japanese????!!!!"

Introduction
You may think that this game was just the ''RPG next door'', but in the moment you input the catridge on your Super Nintendo and you see the first images you will surely understand that this is one of the best RPG's ever made for this console. It is almost perfect in every way you may think, it is even better than those famous games like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest and it can be really enjoyable once you get how to play it correctly.

Gameplay
This game is really easy to control, I believe that as soon as you get to control the character you are going to play with in this game, you will easily know how to do so. The stats and other screens (as item screens, status screens, stores' screens and all the others) are easy to understand and to play with even if you don't know anything about japanese, as occurs to most of the players. The battles are held in real time, I mean, you can strike all the time, don't need to wait until a bar is full or something like that, which occur in Final Fantasy games, making this game even more similar to real life. In battles you can just control a single character at a time but all the others (up to 4, the maximum number of characters you can have on your team) will play by your side, being controlled by the console. When you receive much experience in battles you will be able to ''equip'' some special attacks that increase the damage that those characters deal. You can even combine this special attacks (when they are at a high level) to create even more powerful attacks, which will be surely useful against the tough boss battles you will fight later in the game. Although this game is only available in Japanese, you can get to play it easily, but not understanding the story. As for the number of characters you can get on your team, they are lots of them, and you can only get some of them since those are decided by the actions that you take during the game. When you try to enter the cities you'll notice a flashing image, this means you can get a ''Private Action'' scene. In this scenes the characters on your team will split up and they will hang by the city, once you talk to them and depending on your choices you'll get points between your main character and the one in the event, which is important to determine which will be the ending you will see, since this game has multiple endings, not as many as Chrono Trigger but it also has many.

Story
Of course this game also has a decent story. You'll start by entering a fight against some thieves in the beginning of the game, but when a weird event starts happening to everyone on your village you'll start moving to a even more complex plot that even has spaceships, magic powers, weird monsters and characters that appear not to belong to the same time plot as the rest of your team. I don't want to unveil much about this game's plot since it is really good and you will be amazed with its complexity and beauty as you advance in its story. Once again, I hope you understand japanese or you will not understand anything about the story and I think you should do so.

Graphics/Sound
As all the rest, the graphics and sound are perfect, just like anything else in this game. As for the graphics, what can you say about a Super Nintendo game that looks like a Playstation game? The graphics look fluid, colorful and really pretty for a game that could even be mistaken with some RPG for later consoles. The spells, the weapons and everything else are drawn really great and as for the sound, it is great as it comes along with the spells, the strikes from the many guns and EVEN from some sequences that have voices... Yeah, this game already had the characters' voices, although it was made several years ago! And they sound just great!

Play Time/Replayability
As you may imagine this game has a really big replay time, and even when you finish it you will want to play it more times for getting all the characters, special events and easter eggs. The multiple endings also contribute for making this game's replay value even longer.

Final Recommendation
You MUST surely buy this game, since it is one of the best RPG games you'll ever see and you will surely enjoy it very much. There is just a single thing you must think about, as I already told multiple times this game is only avaliable in japanese, making it hard for most of the people to enjoy completely its pleasures. If there is ever a english version of it, it would be one of the best RPG's ever, even surpassing the mythic Final Fantasy 7.
