Most compatiable Emulators

Hi everyone, I'm really new here, so I do hope this is the right place to put this. I have some questions.

First a bit about why I'm asking. I used to have a few emulators and several games. (Which I do own, I kinda collect old school games) However, my computer went on meltdown awhile back and I just now got another up and running. In the process I lost all my data though. Emulators, ROMS, Pictures, text docs, everything.

So the question is:

What are the emulators that are compatible with most the ROMS these days? I used to have znes but as I do not recall the version number and it goes through changes every so often, I am trying to avoid getting an emulator that does not work with most ROMS. I know that many ROMS are coded in a way that makes the emulator a major choice you see.

I also used to have an emulator for NES and Gameboy ROMS and will be looking to replace those as well, so any advice on those is glady accepted.

Thank you in advance.

I myself use Znes, and see no problems with it yet.

for NES, try looking for nestopia, it works pretty well with me.

and finally, for the game boy advance, try visual boy advance. for normal game boy, try virtual boy.

Snes - Zsnes (has best feature yet for emulators online play.)

Nes - I don't truly know but i've used NESticle for the times i did play nes games...works fairly well.

GBA - Hands down Visualboy

PSX - I don't know about the vast majority of games but PSx itself is a great emulator and you don't need to bother with all those plugins

N64 - PJ64 hands down

Thank you, your replies have been pretty helpful. I can see that the Gameboy in particular has changed a bit. However, I need further info. And I do understand if you know nothing about it, but it is my hope to figure this out.

I now know that Znes is the best Snes emulator still, (No suprise there it was always good) but I need to know the best version of it. Znes had many versions when I had it before. Say something like "Znes 2.46" or something like that. Some versions were not compatable with some roms, but normally there was always one that ran the majority of ROMS. (And it was not always the newest)

This is the primary info i'm looking for, because it is often not well listed and I have many games I actually own, so it's important to be able to run just about any ROM I come across on the emulator I have choosen.

Basically, now that I know the better emulators out there I wish to know which build is the best for each of these emulators.
