What I want to do is buy two adaptors that will allow me to plug in two controllers into my pc and play roms with a friend. I have a few questions though that I really need answered.
1) How do I know if the adaptor I buy will be compatible with my computer? I have windows vista and the adaptor I'm thinking about buying is the snes smartjoy usb adpator. Will it work? Can I plug in two of these into one computer?
2) The emulator I have is znes. Will this work with the above mentioned adaptor? Also, can i even play multiplayer on znes with two controllers?
3) is there any way to play multiplayer on roms without getting the controllers? perhaps lan instead of sharing a keyboard?
Thanks a lot for anyone taking the time to answer these questions. I appreciate it.
Well, you certainly can play multiplayer with ROM's. You could, for instance, use two USB-based gamepads. That could set you back twenty to forty dollars. You could also convert old system controllers to USB (a method I'm not too particularly fond of considering the fact that old controllers are no longer being manufactured). Both of these methods only require two free USB ports. If for some reason you only have one free, you could buy a USB hub that offers more USB ports.
Of course, you can always just program your keyboard keys so that both you and your friend occupy one side of the keyboard. It's not the most fun method in my opinion, but it is free. In a pinch, I've also grabbed a spare keyboard and plugged it in. That way my friend and I are free to bump shoulders in-game and not in person.
Good luck,
manaman
PS: You could also use an adapter for a classic controller. That will take the male end of the controller and allow you to hook it up to a female end and then plug the whole thing into USB.
