Video Playback for PCSX2

PCSX2 keeps on improving. For the people who do not know what PCSX2 is, this is a PS2 emulator getting closer and closer to offering the option to play commercial PS2 games! The PCSX2 site has some news now that some ingame videos (also called FMVs) are now playable. Also a video has been created showing some of the progress.

Quote:
Videos (FMV's, cutscenes etc) had previously required patches to skip past them, otherwise the emulator would hang, now many games are playing videos (all be it very broken looking in many cases!), examples of games now showing FMV playback would include: Onimusha 2, Onimusha 3, R: Racing, Project Zero, Soul Calibur II, Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 etc.

Video support will greatly increase the compatibility of PCSX2 and open up even more games for testing and viewing pleasure.

To show you this good news our tester Rudy_X produced a video from Final Fantasy X DEMO to show you video playback and how it allows you to progress further into the game!

NOT SUITABLE IF YOU SUFFER FROM EPILEPSY
This video is divX and is being shared using Bit Torrent, thus you will need a Bit Torrent client such as Azureus to get this video!

Yes, I have seen that page about a couple of weeks ago. (If I remember correctly, I offered the emulator to someone asking for help here at EW.) It is quite great that the development of PS2 emulation is going so well. I hope to see the first official version of it out soon.

Yeah, the emulator has been " work in progress" for like two years now. But still, it is getting closer and closer to it's release. I think it will be released spring next year, but can be later ofcourse. So you can sell your ps2 then, keep your games and buy a xbox360, or whatever heh.

Yeah, too bad it gets harder for every system. I wonder if the newest will ever be emulated. I mean, you will need a super computer to run xbox360 and the others. And if PS2 takes 3-4 years to develop, how long will the next generation take?

Good thing we still have handheld emulation, I bet soon PSP and DS will be very, very popular. Just like GBA emulation.
