Worst Movie Adaptations Ever

Post here what you think is the worst movie adaptation of any other media element out there, and more importantly, why it's the worst.

My nomination is:
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. (2005)

True, it had dazzling and over the top special effects that appealed to so many kids and movigoers and earned it so many Academy Awards.

BUT, it did NOT make up for its extreme inaccuracy to the book. Basically, the filmmakers ripped the book into pieces, glued what they thought were the best parts together, beefed them up to make them more oh-so-cool, and made a movie out of it. The result is an unwatchable (and overrated) piece-of-shit.

I've read all 7 books over and over again, and I enjoy them a lot. And I was extremely disappointed with how they butchered the story. They obviously thought that special effects was more important than storyline. And what's worse, they even turned it offensive. I -hate- offensive movies (Scarface being only one of a few exceptions). They made the villians meaner and the heroes weaker, just like they did with The Lord of the Rings. In fact, I often lead myself to believe that they were actually trying to make Narnia a blatant rip-off of LOTR.

I'm letting LOTR go because it was an extremely long and complex book, and it'd be impossible to make a perfect adaptation of it without the movie being horrendously long, although I was disappointed at some of the major "changes" they made. The reason I'm so pissed off about Narnia is because it was a very simple book, and it could have been easily translated for the screen. It was wonderfully adapted before as a cartoon in 1979, and even better for TV in 1988 (The TV version proves that it's not what's on the outside but what's on the inside that counts. It may have had bad effects and bad acting, but it was a wonderful adaptation of the story.) But Disney and Walden Media were shitty money whores and raped Narnia so that it's special effects would cough them up more and more money (That's why I hate so many movies made nowadays, because they're made all around money). And what's even worse is, they're going to do all seven books. No one's ever done all seven before. The 1988 series only did four of them. So Disney's going to fuck them all over.

*sigh* God, I hate that movie so much. I've got a DVD of the 1979 Animated version. That's the only Narnia I do (and will ever) watch, with the exception of the 1988 series. I've been wanting to say this ever since the movie came out: Fuck you Andrew Adamson. You destroyed one of my favorite books of all time. I hope you choke on your cold hard cash.

EDIT: I'm downloading all four 1988 TV movies. Judging by how good the TV version of LWW was, I can't wait to see the other three.

I think the real question is what was adapted well, since there are very few.

Now when you change a book or game into a movie, I think you will always upset the fans of the books. You just cannot fit a 300+ page novel into a 2 hour movie. You will always have to cut stuff out, and since people like action now, it is going to be character development stuff, and what not. I went into the LotR movies without having read the books, and I enjoyed them all for what they were. Same with a bunch of other novel books, although some of them still sucked, without knowing the novel.

Now games that are made into movies are almost always terrible. I find the main reason for that is the simple fact that Uwe Boll seems to be the only guy making them, and well, he is horrible.

I would however like to see a list of novel/game movies that stayed true to its original material, and did a good job.

Like I said, the 1979 Animated version of Narnia was great, and the 1988 TV version was even better, mostly because it was split up into nightly segments, allowing it more accuracy.

BTW, have any of you ever seen Chefelf's "Reasons to hate the Star Wars Prequels"? I don't like them, but the reason I mentioned it was because I could do the exact same thing with the new Narnia movies, because that's how much I hate them.

And about Uwe Boll, I agree that he's a bad filmmaker. In fact, a few years ago, I heard that he got so fed up with bad criticism that he was actually organizing to beat up all those critics in a boxing match. Now THAT's horrible.

EDIT:
Now that I think of it, I wish Disney would leave Narnia alone, and instead try to fix up the Chronicles of Prydain, because The Black Cauldron was one of their biggest disasters ever. I actually might get back into that movie now though. Accuracy doesn't count for that movie because they tried to fit two novels into one 1-1/2 hour animated movie. (Although I hated Creeper. He was an extra character in the movie not in the book, although I love when the Good Ol' Horned King chokes him to death.)
