Maybe you should setup a 2nd controller, as if you where going to do a multiplayer game, and then just set down the 1st controller and use the 2nd controller during the fight. Seeing that having 2 controllers plugged in simultaneously worked for me when playing on a PS2, it should work much the same on an emulator

(My friend and I got stuck on MGS. Psycomantis....I hate him <_<)
