Experience is gained from killing enemies; attributes are raised whenever Alucard levels-up, which is good incentive not to pass up enemies when trying to get from one area to the next; special skills are learned by performing different control-pad movements that subsequently save to a move list in the subscreen; and you can find and use numerous magic items during your quest. Even with the new trappings, though, the basics of the game are true to previous installments - break candles, collect hearts and money (which you can now actually spend in a shop), and fight ghoulish enemies.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is easily one of the best games ever released and a true testament to the fact that 2D gaming is not dead by any stretch of the imagination. The game is very large and will keep you entertained for a long time.

I copy & pasted the above from shadow dragon's discription from the english, PSX version, What is different in this one is a few things. One noticiable difference from the begening is, You may play as Richter, or Maria from the begning of the game. Richters gameplay is the same as the english PSX version, But Maria is a bit different (Since you can't play her at all in the english version). She has no weapons, so she uses kicks to defend herself. There are some magic attacks she has, all of wich are powerfull, and all of wich take mana from her mana bar. Another difference is the previously unreleased content. example: Secret Guardens below the Castle Gate. There are also two (or three i forget) more familures you can get along the way, and a few new items. Like the Alucard boots that allow you to move as fast forward as you usually do dashing backwords. One additional note worth mentioning is the fact that they also updated Richters clothes to that of Rondo of Blood (Never realased in USA) It can be seen in the screenshots above.
This is my first submission, so please enjoy. Hope i can provide many more to come.
