Final Fantasy 8 and MML1 Freezing Problem

With Final Fantasy 8 and MML1 sometimes the emulation becomes very slow, like in Final Fantasy 8 after a battle they sit there for liek a minute or two then the victory sequence comes up or the emulation completely freezes. With any other emulations everything seems to be working fine.

I am using:
epsxe 1.6
Pete's Open GL Driver 2.8
Eternal SPU Plugin 1.41
scph7502.bin

Any ideas?

Heh,

My default answer as of late is to use P.E.Op.S Soft Driver and choose the "Nice" default setting in the lower left hand corner of the configuration screen. This should give you a better running game but it won't be as pretty. Feel free to experiment with settings from here to see what your machine is capable of, but remember this setting and return to it when you need to.

Please let us know what success you have with this setup. I could help further when I have more time. Good luck!

Hey Stompy703,

It's possible, but probably not the case. When you say the game freezes, how long does it freeze? And does ePSXe crash?

Peace,

manaman

Most of the time it does not freeze entirely, the game just lags for about 20 seconds or so and then resumes normal play. Other times it does seem it freezes entirely..I'm not sure whether or not ePsXe crashes or not, I suppose it does cause I cannot even switch save states on those certain occurrences.

Hmmm,

Have you restarted your computer, closed any running programs, run a clean start of the game under P.E.Op.S Soft Driver with the "Fast" default setting? The game should run incredibly fast. That's good. If so, apply the FPS (Frames Per Second) limit as well as have the emulator automatically detect the correct limit. Run the game and see if it does the same lagging thing. If not, apply the "Nice" setting. If you are getting a problem, it's one of the settings that gets changed from "Fast" to "Nice."

It might help to know for sure that your computer is capable of running the games. I don't want to state the obvious but low RAM and processor speed can cause lag in some cases--especially if the plugin is adding effects.

I'm sorry I'm a little baffled on this. I doubt you have faulty ISO's because it sounds like you're encountering the same thing on two separate games. Courage! A new version of ePSXe is due out very soon if the news on their site is anything to go by. Yay!

Good luck,

manaman

Stompy,

Might I also suggest the emulator pSX? I've been recently deciding it's well worth mentioning as compatibility is higher than the current version of ePSXe. Now, this may change once the ePSXe developers release the next update, but for now, if you continue having problems, I suggest trying this alternative emulator. It's quite easy to set up and it is very easy and satisfying to run.

Good luck,

manaman
